Salahuddin Ahmed commented that if India wants to construct a barbed wire fence on its border, it is their internal matter. He stated that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remains constantly vigilant to prevent border infiltration and maintain a normal law and order situation.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists after a meeting on improving the living standards of salt farmers, held on Monday (May 11) at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.

The minister informed that the Ministry of Agriculture is currently reviewing the production costs of salt farmers to ensure they receive fair prices for their hard work. Additionally, the demand for industrial and edible salt in the country is being assessed, along with the necessity of imports.

He further stated that after analyzing the necessary data and information, decisions would be made according to the Prime Minister’s directives to ensure Bangladesh achieves self-sufficiency in salt production and that farmers do not incur losses.

Salahuddin Ahmed said that Bangladesh maintains diplomatic relations with the Indian government based on sovereign equality. He also mentioned that political changes in any Indian state do not affect Bangladesh’s foreign policy or bilateral relations.

Regarding various information circulating on social media about alleged post-election minority persecution in West Bengal and its impact, the minister stated that in many cases, old and misleading videos are being used to spread misinformation. He added that neither the Ministry of Home Affairs nor the Ministry of Foreign Affairs currently possesses any information confirming the truth of such situations or their potential negative impact on Bangladesh. He urged the public not to be misled by such propaganda.
