Veteran theater personality Ataur Rahman is on life support due to a critical illness. His physical condition rapidly deteriorated after he fell at home last Friday.

Initially, he was taken to a hospital in the Gulshan area. Doctors there stated that he required ICU support. However, due to the unavailability of ICU facilities at that time, he was later transferred to a hospital in the Dhanmondi area. He was placed on life support immediately after being admitted there.

Subsequently, his condition improved slightly, and the life support was removed. However, with a renewed deterioration in his physical state, he was put back on life support yesterday.

On Monday afternoon, his daughter Sharmistha Rahman provided an update on his latest physical condition. She stated, “My father’s condition is not very good; it’s critical. Doctors have informed us that multiple organs in his body have failed.”

‘I request everyone to pray for my father’s recovery.’

Ataur Rahman is a multifaceted personality in Bangladesh’s cultural arena, known as a theater artist, actor, stage director, and writer. Born on June 18, 1941, in Noakhali, this cultural figure is renowned as one of the pioneers of the post-independence stage drama movement. For his significant contributions to the nation’s culture and theater, he has been honored with the Ekushey Padak and the Shadhinata Padak.
