Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed that waste from the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Adha Qurbani be removed within 12 hours. The Prime Minister issued this directive during a meeting with relevant officials at the Secretariat on Monday (May 4) concerning the management of Eid-ul-Adha. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed shared this information with journalists after the meeting.

The Home Minister stated, “The most crucial aspect after Qurbani is waste management. We received the decision today, issued by the Prime Minister. He (the Prime Minister) has issued a directive, an instruction, to ensure that all city corporations, municipalities, district levels, and all relevant areas – where waste tends to accumulate and was not previously cleaned – are cleared within 12 hours. The two administrators of the city corporations were present here.”

Salahuddin Ahmed added, “Within the next few days, the Local Government Minister and State Minister will meet with the administrators and mayors of city corporations across the country and issue directives to the Deputy Commissioners. We want to ensure this and demonstrate to the nation that the Prime Minister’s instructions will be followed to the letter, and waste will be cleared within 12 hours. All other arrangements, including sanitation, will also be made to safeguard public health.”

The Home Minister further informed that the Prime Minister has explicitly stated that no cattle markets can be set up on highways to maintain traffic discipline. The same prohibition will be enforced for areas adjacent to railway lines.
